Remember, it is always recommended that you seek help from an elder who is familiar with you and/or your family. However, there are quite a few options here within United States. These organizations can often help directly or by referring you to someone in your area.


  • Shalom Task Force (800) 883-2323 Anonymous domestic violence hotline manned by specially trained advocates that can speak in multiple languages including English, Hebrew, Yiddish and Russian.  Hotline volunteers can make referrals to mental health professionals in caller’s area.
  • National Domestic Violence Hotline (800) 799-SAFE (7233) (800) 787-3224 (TTY) 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, toll-free. Available for victims and anyone calling on their behalf. Provides crisis intervention, safety planning, information and referrals in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Assistance available in English and Spanish with access to more than 140 languages through interpreter services.

  • American Domestic Violence Crisis Line (serves Americans being abused in foreign countries) (866) USWOMEN (879-6636)
  • Jewish Youth Hotline (800) SOS-NCSY Available 24 hours a day, all year round (please do not call on the Sabbath and Jewish holidays). When you call, you can listen to a Dvar Torah (some words of Torah) on the weekly Torah portion and get information about regional events and programs in your area. You can also receive answers to your questions about Jewish law or philosophy by leaving a taped message.
